Experience the Rebirth of an Historic Aurora, Ohio Icon

Nestled in Aurora’s historic district just 30 minutes from Cleveland and Akron, the Aurora Inn has been fully restored in 2017 after a three year renovation.

A charming, boutique hotel of just 67 guest rooms and suites, the Aurora Inn was once an old stage coach stop where adventure-seekers headed West in the 1800s. And the hotel has been welcoming travelers with warm, Midwestern hospitality ever since.

Originally constructed in 1927, the Aurora Inn has enjoyed a rich and dramatic history spanning almost a century, hosting American legends like Rosemary Clooney and diving great, Greg Louganis, while building a reputation as a beloved local institution.

From the 1920s to the early 1960’s, the hotel welcomed travelers from all over the Midwest and Northeast. Local residents gathered for social civic events, birthday parties, family dinners, and Sunday brunches. It’s where you’d find families after the Friday night football game and where couples who got married here would come back year after year to celebrate anniversaries.

Then on Valentine’s Day in 1963, the hotel was destroyed by a fire and had to be rebuilt from the ashes up. It re-opened two years later to much fanfare as the Aurora Treadway Inn and was once again the darling of Aurora.

But over time, the hotel fell into disrepair.

After a remarkable renovation under new ownership in 2017, the hotel’s rich history is once again brought to life as soon guests step onto the front porch.

Led by HGTV’s design star Genevieve Gorder, the Aurora Inn’s re-design blends a mid-century, Midwest aesthetic with modern furnishings and amenities. The lobby features the hotel’s original brick flooring and oversized fireplace. Ceiling beams, doors, frames and crown molding that were uncovered during the renovation are lovingly restored throughout the architecture. The hotel’s guest rooms and suites are among the finest accommodations in Aurora, Ohio, featuring luxury bedding, bathrooms with oversized counters, flat screen TVs, lamps and built-in charger outlets, work desks and complimentary wifi for the modern traveler.

The Aurora Inn’s meeting and event spaces have all been fully renovated. The grand ballroom, which has hosted countless weddings and social events, is elegant in its redesign, featuring original light fixtures from the 1920’s accentuated by floor-to-ceiling windows, original crown molding and wood flooring.

Located just off the hotel lobby, The Cutting Board Restaurant is a favorite of guests and locals alike and considered one of the best restaurants in Aurora, Ohio. While remaining steeped in the Aurora Inn’s rich history, The Cutting Board is a modern venue for any occasion – dinner parties, weddings, business meetings, and family get-togethers. (In fact, on any given night, The Cutting Board hosts civic events and boosters, as well as the local rotary club.) Our family-friendly restaurant in Aurora serves a hearty three meals a day and brunch on Sundays. Menus feature seasonal items, many locally-sourced and all incredibly delicious – think comfort food with a twist.

Adjacent to The Cutting Board, Six Horses Tavern is the perfect spot to grab a pint and a bite. Paying homage to the inn’s humble beginnings, Seven Horses was named for the stage coach stop that once occupied this part of town and has been serving Aurora’s thirsty for generations, including notables like Paul Newman (who was known to down some suds after racing the Nelson’s Ledges Race Track nearby) and Ohio native and crooner, Dean Martin. A cozy bar with velvet booths, a roaring fire, and flat screens to catch the big game, our Aurora tavern serves up spirits, wine and regional beers, appetizers sure to please any palate and live music on weekends.

And for fitness (and fun!) the Aurora Swim Center is an indoor aquatic facility that offers hotel guests and local resident members the ability to swim year round. Located inside the hotel, the fully renovated facility has a spacious indoor pool, men’s and women’s saunas and locker rooms as well as a variety of fun, safe programs that promote a healthy lifestyle for all ages. Generations of Aurora’s children have learned to swim here, held their birthday parties here, and spent summers here with friends making lifelong memories.

And so begins a new chapter for the Aurora Inn. From its days as a stage coach stop to iconic hometown treasure, the Aurora Inn brings together past and present and people from all walks of life to experience the best of Midwest. And we’re excited to share it with you.
